Petrol Duty Price Rise

The raise in duty on fuel has heightened concerns that petrol may reach record prices.

Duty on petrol increased by 2p on Monday morning, taking the price of unleaded to over 98p a litre and diesel to £1 a litre.

The rise was announced by the then Chancellor Gordon Brown as being in line with inflation, but comes at a time when the price of oil is increasing.

A further rise on 2p a litre has been announced for April 2008.
