Postal Workers Set For More Strikes
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has announced that further strikes will take place as the row over pay and business changes at Royal Mail continues.
Two 48-hour strikes are scheduled to take place on October 5 and 6 and October 8 and 9.
The union also said that a rolling programme of functional strikes would commence on October 15 and would continue weekly until the dispute was resolved.
The CWU said that there was still no agreed pay deal and that the pay offer made by Royal Mail was "linked to unacceptable propositions on flexibility and decreased pensions benefits."
The CWU has staged a number of strikes since June in protest over the Royal Mail's offer of a 2.5% pay rise and modernisation plans, which, the union claims, will put around 40,000 at risk.
However, the Royal Mail has argued that the reforms are necessary in order for it to compete in a liberalised market.
Dave Ward, the CWU's Deputy General Secretary, said: "Despite five weeks of negotiations Royal Mail have failed to take on board the union's message that in order for the business to succeed Royal Mail need to invest in their workforce.
"Strikes are a proportionate response to an employer that is completely out of control. Rather than running the business, Royal Mail's actions demonstrate they are intent on destroying it.
"The workforce has had enough of Royal Mail messing them around. We're not going to tolerate an employer that ignores it workforce, ignores the union and ignores its customers."
The Royal Mail has not yet issued a comment.

Royal Mail Express Concern Over Wildcat Strikes
Royal Mail has said that it is "extremely concerned" about wildcat strikes by postal workers, which are taking place despite the end of the latest official 48-hour strike. Up to 130,000 members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) were due to return to work on Wednesday following the strike.

Postal Strikes Continue
A new series of postal strikes has begun today, after talks between the Royal Mail and the union broke down yesterday. The strikes began this morning at 4am, with 43,700 staff in mail centres, network logistic drivers and garage staff walking out on strike.

Royal Mail urged to redouble efforts to stop mass mail scams
Royal Mail has been told to "tighten" its procedures in an effort to try to stop fraudsters using the postal system to get to consumers. The Trading Standards Institute (TSI) made the calls after statistics revealed that 67% of complaints about scams aimed at consumers relate to items delivered through the post.
