British Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
A British soldier has been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
The soldier, from 36 Engineer Regiment, was seriously injured when the army dump truck he was travelling in was hit by an explosion whilst taking part in a routine logistics convoy, 19 kilometres north-east of the town of Gereshk in the Helmand province in the south of the country on Monday afternoon.
Another soldier was also injured in the blast.
Both soldiers were taken to the ISAF medical facility at Camp Bastion in an emergency response helicopter. An statement released by the MoD said: "Sadly the very seriously injured soldier was pronounced dead on arrival. The injuries sustained by the second soldier are not life threatening."
The next of kin of both soldiers have been informed and there will be a 24-hour grace period before further details are released.

The MoD confirmed that the soldier had been killed in a roadside bomb attack while on patrol in the south-east of Basra City. Three other soldiers have also been injured, one of whom is described as being in a critical condition.
