Two Robbers Killed In Suspected Bank Raid

Two men have been killed in a shooting during a suspected armed robbery attempt at a bank in Hampshire.

The men were shot by police outside a branch of the HSBC bank in Chandler's Ford in Southampton on Thursday.

It is believed that they were attempting to rob a security van outside the bank.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second man died in hospital.

The Metropolitan Police Flying Squad were involved in the incident, along with Hampshire Police.

A spokesperson for Scotland Yard said: "The object of the operation was to prevent and apprehend those believed to be involved in an attempted armed robbery of a premises in Chandlers Ford.

"At approximately 10:05am, shots were fired and two men were shot. One was pronounced dead at the scene, the other was taken to a local hospital but died at approximately midday."

No police officers were injured in the incident.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission have confirmed that they will be carrying out an investigation of the incident.

Bank Of England Maintains Bank Rate At 0.5%
