Barrymore Not Facing Charges

Entertainer Michael Barrymore will not face charges over the death of Stuart Lubbock, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Essex CPS said in a statement it had advised the police that no one should be charged over Mr Lubbock's death.

55-year-old Barrymore and two other men, Justin Merritt and Jonathan Kenny, were released this afternoon.

Earlier this morning the 55-year-old Barrymore arrived at Harlow police station to answer bail after being questioned in June over the sexual assault and death of Mr Lubbock in 2001.

Essex police questioning Michael Barrymore over the death of Stuart Lubbock have been given a further 12 hours.

Barrymore's lawyer, Henri Brandamn, said the star categorically denied the allegations.

Post mortem tests indicated Lubbock had drowned and an inquest recorded an open verdict on his death.

The coroner said he had been found with drugs and alcohol in his system and with serious anal injuries, which suggested he had been the victim of a violent sexual assault.

In December last year detectives said they would reopen their probe, following a review.
