Five Youths Charged With Murder Over Park Attack

Five youths have been charged with the murder of a 20-year-old woman who was attacked as she walked through a park in Lancashire.

Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend Robert Maltby, 21, were beaten up on Stubbylee Park on 11 August.

Miss Lancaster was left with serious head and facial injuries. She died almost two weeks later. Mr Maltby suffered head injuries, a brain haemorrhage and was in a coma for a time. He is now recuperating.

The accused youths have not been released and are due to appear at Burnley Magistrates Court.

Park Death Boy Died From 'Head Injuries'
A post mortem has found that a teenager beaten to death in a public park died from head injuries. Seventeen-year-old Amar Aslam was found in a West Yorkshire park on Sunday evening by two passers-by. Emergency services were called to Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury at around 7.00pm but Amar was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 16-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to the murder of a 20-year-old woman who was attacked in a Lancashire Park last year, at Preston Crown Court today. The youth admitted to the murder of Sophie Lancaster and attacking her boyfriend Robert Maltby on August 11, last year.

Teens Remanded Over Man's Death
Three teenagers have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a man who died after confronting a group of youths outside his home in Cheshire. It is believed that Garry Newlove, 47, was attacked after he confronted youths outside his home in Station Road North in Warrington on Friday night.

Two teenagers convicted of murdering a young Goth woman are facing life imprisonment. Brendan Harris, 15 and Ryan Herbert, 16 appeared before Preston Crown Court today.

Alton Towers Remains Closed Following Accident
Alton Towers remains closed today, 3 June, following an incident on one of its attractions on Tuesday. At around 2pm yesterday, two carriages crashed on a low section of track on the theme park's The Smiler rollercoaster. Sixteen passengers were on the ride at the time, some of which were trapped for four-and-a-half hours.
