Schoolfriends Pay Tribute To Murdered Rhys
Schoolfriends of murdered Merseyside schoolboy Rhys Jones have paid tribute to him at a special assembly held at his old primary school on the first day of the new term.
Pupils, parents and teachers gathered outside Broad Square Primary school in Norris Green in Liverpool on Wednesday morning to pay tribute to the eleven-year-old.
Elaine Spencer, headteacher at the school, said: "Although Rhys' classmates have moved on to secondary school, there are many younger pupils who knew him as their friend."
Mrs Spencer said that the school had planned a number of permanent memorials for Rhys at the school, including the dedication of a new adventure playground to his memory and the planting of a tree for him as well.
Rhys was shot through the neck as he played football with his friends in the car park of the Fir Tree pub in Croxteth on August 22.
On Monday night, a 16-year-old boy arrested in connection with the killing was released on bail.
He was the seventeenth person to be arrested in connection with the shooting. Twelve people have been released on police bail, pending further inquiries, with five were released without charge and are now being treated as witnesses.
Rhys' killer is described as being aged between 13 and 15, about 5ft 8ins tall and was wearing dark clothes and white trainers at the time of the shooting. He was also riding a BMX-style bike at the time of the shooting.
Rhys' funeral will take place at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral on Thursday.

The funeral procession for the 11-year-old travelled from his family's home in Croxteth, past Goodison Park - home of his favourite football, club, Everton - before arriving at the city's Anglican Cathedral at 2pm.

Teenager Bailed Over Rhys Murder
