Teenager Bailed Over Rhys Murder
A 15-year-old boy arrested in connection with the murder of Merseyside schoolboy Rhys Jones has been released on police bail.
The teenager was the eleventh person to be arrested in connection with the eleven-year-old's murder.
Ten people had previously been arrested in connection with Rhys' murder. Four people have been released without charge, while six have been released on police bail.
On Thursday, Rhys' father Stephen Jones wrote a poem in which he imagined his football-loving son playing the game with the likes of George Best, Dixie Dean and Bobby Moore in heaven.
On Tuesday, a section of Dam Wood, close to where Rhys was shot, was sealed off and searched, following a tip-off from a member of the public. More than 40 officers were involved in the search, using police sniffer dogs and specialist equipment, and divers were also involved in searching the area, which contains three large ponds.
Merseyside Police have not revealed what evidence they were searching for.
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward, including a man who has already contacted them before.
It is understood that the man contacted police on Saturday and they promised to look after him if he contacted them again.
Speaking on Wednesday, Assistant Chief Constable Patricia Gallan also stressed that the identities of anyone with any information regarding the case would be protected. She said it was "fantastic" that people were calling the anonymous Crimestoppers line and stressed that all information received would be acted upon. However, she added: "We now need to make that information into witness statements.
"I know that can be a big step for people who are concerned for their identity, but special measures can be taken to protect them in the courts."
Rhys' killer is described as a white boy, aged around 13 to 15 years of age, approximately 5ft 8ins tall with a slim build. He was wearing dark clothing, including a hoodie top with a peak and white trainers and was riding a black BMX style bike.
