CCTV Footage Studied In Biker Murder Case
Police investigating the fatal shooting of a biker on the M40 in Warwickshire on Sunday are studying CCTV footage in their search for his killer.
Gerard Michael Tobin, 35, from Mottingham, south London, was shot dead on the southbound carriageway of the M40 near Leamington Spa around 2:15pm on Sunday.
It is understood that he died from a single pistol shot to the head.
Mr Tobin, who was a Canadian who had lived in the UK for ten years, was travelling home from the Bulldog Bash motorcycle event at the Long Marston airfield near Stratford.
Police have not confirmed reports that he was affiliated to the Hell's Angels, but have confirmed that he was a biker.
Police are also seeking a green Rover 620 car in connection with the shooting. Mr Lawrence confirmed that Mr Tobin was shot as he and two friends travelled along the motorway and that the Rover had followed them for several miles before overtaking the bikers. A shot was then fired at Mr Tobin.
Police have urged anyone who saw the Rover or Mr Tobin's distinctive black Harley Davidson motorcycle, which had distinctive insignia on the sides, to come forward.
Detective Superintendent Ken Lawrence said: "We are not aware of any incidents at the Bulldog Bash event which could be directly linked to the death.
"But the event gathers huge numbers of people from across Europe and if someone was seeking revenge, the event would be a good place to find someone."
Mr Lawrence also said that police were also examining a shooting involving bikers from the same event six years ago, as there were similarities in both cases.
In that incident, three bikers were shot at on the M40 as they returned from the Bulldog Bash. However, no-one was killed in that incident.
