Escaped Prisoner Arrested In Spain
A man wanted in connection with a £1.25 million security van robbery in Brixton in March 2003 has been arrested in Spain.
Clifford Hobbs, 47, was arrested in Malaga on a European arrest warrant, Scotland Yard confirmed.
Hobbs, described as one of Scotland Yard's most wanted men, escaped custody when two armed men ambushed the prison van transporting him to Inner London Crown Court in June 2003.
The driver of the van was shot in the leg by one of the suspects, while the security guard in the back of the van was also pistol-whipped across the face.
Three prisoners were freed during the incident. One man - 41-year-old Tony Peters - handed himself in to a south London police station. Noel Cunningham, 45, remains on the run.
Hobbs is being detained in connection with allegations of robbery, firearms offences and escaping from custody.
He will remain in Spain until his extradition to the UK is arranged.
