Manchester Drive-By Shooting Victim Named
Police have released the name of the 23-year-old man who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Manchester on Friday night.
Tyrone Donovan Gilbert, of Langport Avenue, Longsight, was standing on Frobisher Close when he was shot shortly before midnight on Friday night. A 33-year-old man was also shot in the same attack.
Both men were taken to hospital and Mr Gilbert died a short time later. A post-mortem revealed that he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The 33-year-old remains in a stable condition in hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.
It is thought that a green Honda Legend and another car were involved in the shooting. It is believed that both cars were travelling along Marksfield Avenue when shots were fired from the cars into the close towards Mr Gilbert and a group of people who were gathered on the street.
Following the shooting, the cars drove off. The Honda was later found abandoned a short time later on Firethorn Avenue in Burnage and it has been seized for forensic examination.
Another incident occurred around 12:20am on Saturday, when a 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg on Stretford Rod in Hulme near to Royce Road.
He was taken to hospital for treatment and his condition is not thought to be life threatening.
Police are investigating whether there is a link between the two incidents.
Forensic examinations have been carried out at the scenes and the cordons were lifted on Sunday.
Armed and unarmed officers remain in the areas on order to deter any further incidents and provide community reassurance.
Anyone with any information about the incidents are asked to contact police on: 0161 856 4343 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
