Kiyan killer jailed for life
The teenage killer of schoolboy footballer Kiyan Prince has been given a life sentence at the Old Bailey.
At sentencing on Thursday, Judge Paul Worlsey told 17-year-old Hannad Hasan that he would have to serve at least 13 years in prison.
Hasan, from Colindale in north London, stabbed Kiyan through the heart when he attempted to stop a playfight outside his school, London Academy in Edgware, northwest London in May 2006.
Hasan, who was also a pupil at the school, admitted manslaughter, but denied murder.
However, he was convicted of murder on July 2, following three trials - the jury had failed to reach a verdict in the first trial and the second collapsed after Kiyan's father Mark Prince approached a female juror on her way home.
The court had heard how Kiyan, a player for the Queen's Park Rangers football team, was trapped in a headlock by Hasan who then produced a penknife, which he described as a little toy.
Following Hasan's conviction, it emerged that he had threatened to stab a girl in a row over a bus seat two weeks before Kiyan's death.
The police and the Crown Prosecution Service have launched an inquiry into why that evidence was not heard in court.
