Four men jailed over cartoon protest
Four men have been jailed for their part in protests against cartoons satirising the Prophet Mohammed in London.
Mizanur Rahman, 24, Umran Javed, 27, and Abdul Muhid, 25, were each jailed for six years for soliciting to murder following separate trials.
Abdul Saleem, 32, was cleared of soliciting murder at his trial, but was jailed for four years for stirring up racial hatred.
The protest took place outside the Danish Embassy in London in February 2006. It was held after cartoons satirising the Prohpet Mohammed, which were first published in Denmark, were reproduced in publications in other European countries.
Rahman, of Palmers Green, north London, was filmed talking at the rally and calling for British soldiers to be brought back from Iraq in body bags.
Javed, of Washwood Heath Road in Birmingham, was also filmed shouting: "Bomb bomb Denmark. Bomb bomb USA."
Muhid, of Whitechapel, east London, was heard leading chants of 'Bomb, bomb the UK' and was seen to have placards calling for the 'annihilation' of those who insulted Islam.
Saleem, from Poplar, east London, was heard chanting "7/7 on its way" and "Europe you will pay with your blood".
Judge Brian Barker said that their words had been designed to encourage murder and terrorism.
