Passengers stranded in derailed Tube train

Hundreds of commuters were stranded in a tunnel after a Tube train derailed this morning on the westbound London Central Line.

Six carriages derailed between Bethnal Green and Mile End and passengers were stuck for two hours following the incident.

A number of passengers sustained minor injuries in the derailment and around 20 passengers were treated at the scene, five of whom were taken to hospital.

Passengers from the derailed train and those from the next train down the track had to walk to Mile End station.

It is reported that some passengers had panicked when it was thought that a bomb had exploded on the train. But calm was restored when a Transport for London employee onboard said that he thought that the train had derailed. TfL said the driver had quickly confirmed this, informing passengers what had happened to the train.
