Policeman stabbed to death

A police constable has been stabbed to death in Luton town centre.

PC Jon Henry, 36, is reported to have attempted to intervene in a mugging.

He was later declared dead at Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

A baton round and a taser were used to subdue the knife wielding man.

Police confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The dead officer had served on the force for three years and was married with a baby daughter.

The Constable had been called to the scene outside Marks & Spencer in George Street at around 7:20am. Two other people were also stabbed in the incident. A window cleaner is in a stable condition after receiving serious stab wounds.

The second person's condition was not made known by police, but they have also received hospital treatment.

Witnesses said that a passer-by had tried to help the officer in a an incident described as a "scuffle".

Senior police officers have revealed that PC Henry was wearing a protective vest.

Tributes paid to stabbed PC
Colleagues of a policeman who died after being stabbed in an attack in Luton on Monday morning have paid tribute to him. PC John Henry, 36, was fatally stabbed in the town centre after responding to reports that a man was attacking a window cleaner with a knife outside Marks & Spencer in George Street.

Wolverhampton Stab Murder Probed
Police in Wolverhampton have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death on Thursday night. The incident happened around 10:45pm in Crosby Close, Whitemore Reans. The victim, believed to be aged 24 and from the local area, was taken to hospital, but pronounced dead a short time later.

Two Held Over New Year Stab Death
Police investigating the killing of a teenager stabbed to death in the early hours of the New Year in central London have arrested two men. Henry Bolombi, 17, of Wyldfield Gardens, Lower Edmonton, was attacked in Edmonton, north London, after a row with a group of youths.

Reid to reconsider pardon for WWI soldier
Defence Secretary John Reid has said that he will reconsider granting a pardon to a First World War soldier who was executed for cowardice. The family of Private Henry Farr are seeking the High Court to overturn a government decision to refuse to pardon him posthumously.
