City boss' daughter dies from injuries
The two-year-old daughter of a City businessman has died after suffering serious head injuries at the weekend.
Yanire Izaga died at St Thomas' Hospital on Tuesday. She had been taken there on Sunday morning after she was found at her parents' apartment on Albert Embankment, near the Houses of Parliament, in central London, suffering from life threatening head injuries.
Her father, 36-year-old Alberto Izaga, was arrested and has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's child abuse investigation team are investigating the incident, which is now being treated as murder.
A post-mortem has been scheduled to take place in due course and an inquest into the child's death will be opened and adjourned.
An executive with insurance company Swiss Re, Mr Izaga is the head of the company's Life and Health Products and he was also elected to the board of the Association of British Insurers last year.
He is married and works in London's landmark 'Gherkin' building.
A spokesperson for Swiss Re said: "Swiss Re is deeply saddened by the tragedy involving the family of Alberto Izaga. Our thoughts are with the family."
