Man hospitalised by hamster bite

A man has been taken to hospital after suffering a severe allergic reaction from a hamster bite.

The 50-year-old was bitten by the animal as he tried to retrieve it from under the floorboards of his home in Evesham in Worcestershire on Monday night.

The man's seven-year-old daughter had accidentally let the hamster out of its cage.

It is understood that the man suffered breathing difficulties and was in a semi-conscious state when paramedics arrived at his home.

He was given medication to counteract the reaction and taken to Alexandra Hospital in Redditch for further treatment.
