Third person arrested over Blackpool stabbing
A third person has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Blackpool.
Sam Brown, 16, was stabbed outside his home in Cockerham Walk in the early hours of Monday morning. Neighbours attempted to save him, but he had died by the time paramedics arrived. He suffered a single stab wound to the chest.
A 28-year-old man was also stabbed during the same incident. He remains in a stable condition in Blackpool Victoria Hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Police have been granted extra time to continue questioning a man and a woman who were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the killing.
The third person to be arrested is understood to be a man from Blackpool. He was arrested in Manchester on Tuesday night.
Sam had been due to sit his English GCSE exam with classmates at St Mary's Catholic College on Tuesday. He had finished school last week and taken a part-time job in a supermarket. He had been hoping to train as a plumber.
Detective Superintendent Graham Gardner, who is leading the murder investigation, said: "We are now questioning three people in connection with the tragic death of Sam Brown.
"As I have already said, they are only part of the jigsaw and I remain convinced that the puzzle will only be solved with the help of the residents of the Grange Park estate.
"We need to know what happened in the early hours of Monday morning and we need to know Sam's movements in the hours leading up to his death. I do appeal to anyone who might have information to come forward."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on: 01253 293933.
