Boy drowns at Wigan beauty spot

A ten-year-old boy has lost his life following an incident at a pond in Wigan.

It is reported that the boy was trying to help a girl who had got into difficulties while swimming at the local beauty spot.

Police were called to the John Pit Pond in Standish Lower Ground at around 3:50pm on Thursday. A police spokesperson said that members of the public had rescued the boy and he had received CPR at the scene.

The boy was taken by Royal Preston Hospital by the North West Air Ambulance and then transferred to Pendlebury Children's Hospital, but he later died.

A two-year-old boy, who fell into a pond with his twin brother, has died in hospital. George Bostock and his brother Harry were found in a neighbour’s garden pond in the Tean area on Monday evening, according to Staffordshire Police. Both boys were given first aid at the scene.

An investigation has been launched after a three-year-old boy died when he fell into a garden pond. Ethan Read, from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, died in spite of his mother's attempts to revive him before the ambulance arrived. The incident happened at an address in Coney Weston. The death is being treated as unexplained.

Baby Dies After Being Bitten By Family Pet
A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a baby bitten by dog in Sunderland. The three-week-old baby boy died in hospital following an incident at his home in Falkland Road. Police were called to the address at 04:15 on Saturday, 20 June. It is understood that the baby had been bitten by the families pet dog.

Boy Dies After Falling Into River In Argyll
A 10-year-old boy has died after falling into a river in Argyll while on holiday with his family. Emergency services were called to the incident at 13:45 on Tuesday. The boy was rescued by a passer-by after getting into difficulties. He was airlifted to Glasgow for treatment, however he later died at Yorkhill Hospital.

Reid gives 'green light' for £4bn PFI hospital deal
The 'green light' has been given for 15 new NHS hospital developments in a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) deal worth more than £4 billion, it has been announced today. Today's announcement will bring investment in new NHS hospitals to more than £16 billion since 1997, the health department said.
