Football greats pay respects to Ball
Many of football's greatest figures joined the mourners at the funeral for Alan Ball in Winchester Cathedral today.
The 61-year-old died from a heart attack while dealing with a small garden fire at his Hampshire home last week.
Alan Ball, a member of the victorious 1966 England World Cup squad, was the youngest member of the team. During his 10-year international career he was capped 72 times and scored 8 goals.
He later moved to team management taking the lead at Manchester City, Southampton, and Portsmouth.
Tributes were paid to Ball who was renowned for his infectious enthusiasm as a great team player and a model professional.
Several of the 1966 England squad attended the funeral Jack Charlton, Gordon Banks, George Cohen and Roger Hunt.
During his 743 league appearances he played for Blackpool, Everton, Southampton, and ended his playing career at Arsenal.
Ball's wife Lesley succumbed to cancer three years ago.
He is survived by his son Jimmy and his two daughters Mandy and Keely.

Firefighters tackling a blaze at a tower block in Edinburgh uncovered bomb-making equipment. The man who lived at the flat, 62-year-old Faris al-Khori, pleaded guilty to possessing explosive ingredients and instructions on how to prepare bombs.

The London Mayor has condemned the use of a portrait of child murderer Myra Hindley in a promotional video shown in Beijing to showcase the London 2012 Olympics. Boris Johnson said he was "deeply disturbed" by the image which had been shown in a three-minute video at London House in the Chinese city, and has asked for it not to be shown again.

E.coli bacteria 'tested as biological weapon'
E.coli bacteria was secretly tested as a possible biological weapon by defence scientists in the 1960s, according to a Ministry of Defence report. According to the 1966 MoD report on the Porton Down laboratory in Wiltshire, the trials were conducted near Swindon and Southampton between 1965 and 1967.
