'Super Thursday' voting underway
Voting in what has become known as 'Super Thursday' is underway in England, Scotland and Wales.
In England the local council seats outside of London are being decided. In Scotland voters are going to the polls to decide the Scottish Parliament and local councils seats. And in Wales the Welsh Assembly elections are taking place.
A high turnout is expected given the favourable weather and around 39 million people are eligible to vote up until the polls close at 10pm tonight.
The Scottish parliament's 129 members will be decided in a system that allows a vote for a constituency candidate and the second for a political party. The first results under this form of proportional representation are expected in the early hours of Friday morning.
Councillors for all 32 local authorities will also be chosen.
In Wales voting is in progress for the 60-seat Assembly. Using a proportional representation system voters will elect 40 candidate and 20 members from regional lists from among the 485 candidates.
English voters are going to the polls to elect the seats on the 312 local authorities. Also being contested are mayoral positions in Bedford, Mansfield, and Middlesborough.
