Child killed in playground accident

A three-year-old girl has died after accidentally hanging herself on a climbing frame in a playground in Scotland.

It is understood that Charley McCraw became entangled in a rope attached to the climbing frame in the park near Maitland Hog Lane in the village of Kirkliston, near Edinburgh, around 3:25pm on Tuesday.

The child, whose home backs onto the park, was taken to St John's Hospital in Livingston, after being spotted by a neighbour.

However, the girl died a short time later.

Lothian and Borders Police said that they believed that Charley was in the park alone at the time of the incident and that the death was not being treated as suspicious.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
