Lord Browne 'facing perjury charges'
Former BP chief Lord Browne may face perjury charges over allegations that he lied in court about a gay partner.
It has been reported that the Attorney General is being asked to consider prosecuting Lord Browne for perjury.
Lord Browne resigned from his post on Tuesday, after the 'Mail on Sunday' won a legal battle allowing them to publish details of his relationship with Canadian Jeff Chevalier.
It emerged that Lord Browne had lied in court about how he met Mr Chevalier.
Lord Browne, who had been due to step down in July after a 41-year career with the firm, said that he was resigning early in order to avoid "unnecessary embarrassment and distraction" to BP.
The decision will cost the peer a £3.5 million leaving package, as well as a potential £12 million in share options.
Lord Browne has also denied allegations that he had used BP resources in order to help Mr Chevalier.
BP also said that the allegations were unfounded.
Lord Browne will be replaced by his nominated successor Tony Hayward.
The Mail on Sunday has said that it will makes its evidence against Lord Browne available to the Attorney General.
