Man chops penis off in London restaurant

A man is recovering in hospital after cutting his penis off with a knife in a busy London restaurant.

It is understood that the man entered Zizzi's pizza restaurant in the Strand in the capital's West End on Sunday night.

According to reports, he entered the kitchen and grabbed a large knife. He is understood to have slashed his wrist and stabbed himself before jumping on a table in the restaurant and cutting off his penis.

The man, who is believed to be aged between 30 and 40, was taken to St Thomas' hospital in south London.

He is understood to be in a stable condition after surgeons carried out an operation to attempt to reattach his penis.

It is not known if the operation was successful.

A spokesperson for Zizzi's said that the incident happened in a "matter of seconds" and was "obviously extremely frightening and distressing for the many customers and staff in the restaurant at the time".
