Sewage leak stopped at Firth of Forth
A sewage leak at the Firth of Forth, which resulted in millions of litres of sewage being pumped into it, has now been stopped.
Millions of litres of sewage pumped into the Forth following a pump failure at the Seafield wastewater treatment plant in Edinburgh on Friday afternoon.
Thames Water, which runs the plant, said that 1,000 litres of untreated waste per second had been pumped into the Forth.
The company said that the plant had not been shut down because it deals with most of Edinburgh's waste - from around 800,000 people.
People had been warned to avoid contact with water and stay away from the shoreline following the incident.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency said that emergency measures to "minimise the risk of pollution" were being put in place.
Scotland's First Minister Jack McConnell has called for a full investigation to take place.
