University gunman sent material to television station
The student who killed 32 people in the worst ever school shooting in the US sent a package to an American television network on the day of the shootings.
NBC confirmed that Cho Seung-Hui sent them a package, which contained photographs, video clips and writings that the station described as "disturbing".
In some of the footage, broadcast on NBC Nightly News, showed Cho pointing guns at the camera and saying: "You had a hundred billion chances and ways to have avoided today.
"But you decided to spill my blood. You forced me into a corner and gave me only one option. The decision was yours. Now you have blood on your hands that will never wash off."
Virginia State Police have criticised NBC's decision to broadcast the footage.
Cho, a 23-year-old English student who lived on campus at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, killed 32 people in two separate shooting incidents at the university on Monday.
Two people were killed in a shooting at the West Ambler Johnston dormitory, while 32 people were killed in a shooting in classrooms at Norris Hall - about half a mile from the dormitory - two hours later, before Cho eventually killed himself.
NBC said that a time stamp on the package sent by Cho showed that the package had been sent in the two hours between the first and second shooting.
The package arrived on Wednesday morning, because it was slightly misaddressed.
On Wednesday it emerged that Cho had been referred for psychological counselling after material he produced in his creative writing class was described as "disturbing".
He was also evaluated in a mental health facility after two female students complained about his behaviour.
It is understood that both these incidents occurred around the same time - in November and December 2005.
The material sent to NBC has now been passed to the FBI.
