Four British soldiers killed in Iraq

Four British soldiers and a civilian interpreter have been killed in a roadside bomb blast in Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.

A fifth soldier was also seriously wounded in the attack and is being treated in the military hospital in Basra.

It is understood that the soldiers and civilian were part of a convoy travelling through the Hanyaniyah district in north-west Basra on Thursday when a roadside bomb exploded.

The MoD said that next of kin are being informed and no further details will be released until this process has been completed.

Two other British soldiers were also killed while on patrol in the Basra area earlier this week.
