Tina O'Brien to quit 'Coronation Street'
'Coronation Street' actress Tina O'Brien has announced that she is to leave the ITV soap after seven years.
The 23-year-old actress, who plays teenage mum Sarah Louise Platt on the show, has had an eventful time on the Street, becoming a mum at 13, being held hostage by her murdering step-father and being abandoned at the altar.
The soap's writers are said to be planning a "dramatic exit" for O'Brien, who will leave the show in November, with her final scenes being played out over the Christmas period.
It is rumoured, however, that her departure will be left open, allowing her to make a possible return to the show at a later date.
Commenting on the decision, O'Brien said: "This has been an extremely difficult decision to make. I love playing Sarah and have had an amazing time in 'Coronation Street'.
"I feel that the time has come to see what else is out there for me an actress. I have had some fantastic storylines in the show and I will always be grateful for the opportunities I have had to work with the fantastic actors, producers, writers, storyliners, directors and crew involved in making 'Coronation Street'.
"I will really miss everyone but am excited about what the future holds."
The show's producer, Steve Frost, said: "She is a fabulous actress and we will be sorry to see her go. However, we fully understand her ambition and desire to play other roles.
"She will be on screen for a further nine months which will give us time to play out a dramatic and fitting departure storyline for such a great character."
