Raids on suspected passport factories

Charges have been brought against 15 people after police raided what are suspected to have been "passport factories."

Police mounted early morning raids at sites in London resulting in 13 premises being researched and 22 arrests.

During the course of the raids £40,000 was seized along with false passports, driving licences and other documents believed to have been forged.

Seven people have appeared in court on charges in connection with identity fraud. Another eight are expected to appear in court.

Trainee pilot jailed on passport charges
A trainee British pilot was jailed for one year today on bogus passport charges. Zayead Christopher Hajaig, 36, from Ilford, Essex, was arrested when he returned from the US where he had sparked a terror alert by attempting to upgrade his pilot's licence while training in Atlanta where the 9/11 suicide bombers had trained as pilots.

Four men in court over terrorism charges
Four men have appeared in court charged with a number of terrorism offences following a series of raids by anti-terror police in London earlier this month. Yassin Mutegombwa, 22, his 20-year-old brother Hassan, Musa Akmet, 47 and Mustafa Abdullah, 24, have all been charged under anti-terrorism legislation.

24 People Arrested In Police Dawn Raids
Police have arrested 24 people in a series of dawn raids in Greater Manchester. Three stolen motorbikes and a cannabis farm were discovered during the raids in Salford. Over 200 officers carried out searches at 25 addresses in a bid to crackdown on serious organised crime.

Abu Hamza remanded in custody
The radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri has been remanded in custody at Bow Street Magistrates Court today. Abu Hamza, who faces a total of nine charges, appeared by videolink from Belmarsh prison. He was remanded in prison until July 23. The 46-year-old was arrested on May 27 on an extradition warrant served by the US government.
