Camilla leaves hospital following operation

The Duchess of Cornwall has left hospital after having a hysterectomy operation.

Camilla, 59, left the King Edward VII Hospital in London on Thursday night with Prince Charles, three days after having the procedure.

The Duchess is now recovering at home and is expected to rest for a further six weeks, with all planned Royal engagements postponed.

A Clarence House spokesperson said that the Duchess was "recovering well".

Earlier this week, a spokesperson said that the operation was routine and was not linked to cancer.

Around one in five women in the UK have a hysterectomy operation before the age of 60. The operation can be performed for a number of reasons, including fibroids or lumps in the uterus, cancer , pelvic inflammatory disease or heavy or irregular periods.
