Tesco offers car repair payments

Supermarket giant Tesco has offered to pay for car repairs for motorists whose cars were affected by contaminated fuel sold in stores across the southeast of England.

Tesco has taken out newspaper ads which say "We're sorry" and that their petrol supply is now "back to normal".

The ads reassure customers that all affected stores in the south east of England have been refuelled with a "fresh, clean supply" of petrol and adds: "More to the point, we promise to pay for repairs."

The tainted petrol affected thousands of motorists across the southeast of England last week, which caused engine trouble and breakdowns.

A number of retailers were affected, including Tesco and Morrisons supermarkets.

The contaminated fuel was eventually traced to tanks at a Vopak storage facility in West Thurrock. Tests found that the fuel was contaminated with silicon.

Morrisons has also announced that it will refund petrol costs and repairs for motorists affected by the incident.

Both supermarket chains will ask customers to provide receipts, although customers without receipts are still being urged to contact them anyway.

Anyone affected by the faulty petrol are asked to contact Tesco on: 0800 028 6428 and Morrisons on: 0845 611 6111.
