Man in court over 'soldier kidnap plot'
A man has appeared in court charged with planning to kidnap and kill a British soldier.
Parviz Khan, 36, appeared at the Old Bailey in London via video link on Friday. He appeared alongside four other men who have also been charged with terrorism offences.
All four men were arrested during a series of raids in Birmingham last month.
Mr Khan has been charged under the Terrorism Act 2006. It has been alleged that he engaged in conduct "to give effect to his intention to kidnap and kill a member of the British Armed Forces".
Mr Khan is also charged with funding terrorism and supplying terrorists along with Mohammed Irfan, 30, Zahoor Iqbal, 29, Hamid Elasmar, 43 and Amjad Mahmood, 31.
Mr Mahmood is also charged with failing to disclose information which might have been of material assistance in preventing a plot.
The men are due to face trial next January and have been remanded in custody until April 2.

Three remanded over Birmingham riot stabbing
Three men accused of killing a man during violent disturbances in Birmingham have been remanded in custody. The three men – Waqar Ahmed, 25, and Azhil and Afzal Khan, both 22 – who are all from Handsworth, have also been accused of wounding with intent. Azhil Khan has also been charged with firearms offences.

23 Charged With Drug Offences Following Raids
More than 20 people have been charged with drug offences following a number of raids carried out in London, Gravesend, Dover and Deal. A total of 23 people were arrested during twenty raids carried out over three days. The suspects, ranging in age from 17 to 52, have all been charged in connection with the supply of class A drugs.

Suspected suicide bomber’s relatives charged
Three relatives of a British suicide bomb suspect have appeared before Bow Street Magistrates court to face terrorism charges. The sister, brother and wife of bomb suspect Omar Khan Sharif, 27, were all denied bail and were remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Monday, May 19.

Body on beach identified as Tel Aviv bomber
It has been confirmed that the body recovered from a beach last week was that of Omar Khan Sharif – the Briton who allegedly took part in a terror attack in Tel Aviv on April 30. Sharif was identified after DNA samples obtained from the family matched up. Forensic testing on the body also indicates that Sharif probably died from drowning.
