Armed officers to patrol in south London

Armed officers are to patrol streets in south London following the death of a third teenager in a series of shootings in the area.

The move was announced by Sir Ian Blair following an emergency meeting of the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Directorate - which includes Operation Trident, the task force which investigates black gun crime in the capital - to discuss the shootings.

The meeting followed the murder of 15-year-old Billy Cox in his home in the Fenwick Place area of Clapham North on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, two other teenagers were shot dead in south London. Michael Dosunmu, 15, was gunned down in his bedroom in Peckham on February 6, three days after 16-year-old James Andre Smartt-Ford was shot at an ice-rink in Streatham.

A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of Michael Dosunmu.
