Teenager killed in train crossing collision

A teenager has been killed and two more young men seriously injured following a collision between a train and a car in northern Scotland.

The accident happened at the Delny crossing near Invergordon, north of Inverness, around 8:15am on Friday morning.

Northern Constabulary said that the three young men - all aged 17 - were all in the car and had to be freed by heavy cutting equipment.

The two injured teenagers were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.

One was transported by air ambulance and it has been reported that his condition is currently giving cause for concern.

Network Rail confirmed that the train - the 0714 GMT FirstScotrail service - had not been derailed in the collision and confirmed that no passengers or employees were injured.

The Rail Maritime and Transport union has renewed its call for the removal of level crossings from public roads following the accident.
