NME award nominations announced

Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Muse are among those shortlisted for this year's Shockwaves NME Awards.

All three bands have picked up four nominations, alongside American bands The Killers and My Chemical Romance.

Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Muse are all nominated for Best British Band and Best Live Band, while their albums - 'Whatever You Say I Am, That's What I'm Not', 'Empire' and 'Black Holes And Revelations', respectively - are all nominated in the Best Album category.

Meanwhile, both the Killers and My Chemical Romance will compete in the Best International Band category, while My Chemical Romance are also nominated in the Best Live Band category. Both bands are also nominated in the Best Album category - The Killers with 'Sam's Town' and My Chemical Romance with 'The Black Parade'.

Oasis and Babyshambles are also nominated for Best British Band, with Pete Doherty's band also nominated in the Best Live Band category.

The Strokes are also nominated in the Best International Band category, alongside We Are Scientists and CSS.

Lily Allen leads the nominations for Best Solo Artist, alongside former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly and Jamie T.

The Fratellis lead the line-up for the Best New Band nominations, alongside The Horrors, Klaxons, The Kooks and The View.

The Shockwaves NME Awards will take place at London's Hammersmith Palais on March 1.

Cold shoulder for ‘Cold Mountain’ in Oscar nominations
One of the front-runners in this year’s Academy Award race has been dramatically snubbed in the nominations list. ‘Cold Mountain’, the lavish American Civil War epic, directed by Anthony Minghella, only picked up two major nominations – ‘Best Actor’ for Jude Law and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nomination for Renee Zellweger.

The King's Speech Leads BAFTA Nominations
The King's Speech is the frontrunner in this years BAFTAS, with no less than 14 nominations. Tom Hooper's film about King George VI is nominated in the Best Film category, while it's star Colin Firth - who won a Best Actor award at the Golden Globes at the weekend - is nominated for Best Actor.
