Winter weather warning alert
Wintry weather warnings have been issued for all parts of the UK except for the south east.
Roads were closed across England last night as several inches of snow fell.
Britain and Ireland are to face a cold spell of weather that will see temperatures hover around zero in some parts as biting winds, sleet and snow are expected as far south as Kent.
Last night many routes in Derbyshire and Yorkshire were closed by snowfalls.
Today temperatures are forecast to plummet as cold weather moves across the UK towards Thursday.
Further snow is expected in northern regions on Wednesday and Thursday.

Cold weather set to continue
The current cold spell gripping the UK is set to continue, the Met Office has warned, with more snow showers expected across England and Wales today. South East England could see accumulations of snow of between 3 to 7cm, due to persistent snow showers, the Met Office warned.

Met office forecasters are warning of the potential for heavy snow across parts of the UK this weekend. Snow is forecast to spread from the west across Wales, and south west England overnight into Saturday morning, before pushing east across other parts of England through the day.

Women Motorists 'More Prepared' For Bad Weather
Women drivers are more likely to get caught out by severe weather, according to new research published by the Highways Agency. A survey of nearly 1,300 road users showed that women were less likely than men to make a journey by car after hearing a severe weather warning. Only 44% of women said that they would continue, compared with 62% of men.
