Mirren leads the winners at the Golden Globes
Dame Helen Mirren won two awards at the Golden Globe on a night where British talent triumphed.
Dame Helen collected the award for Best Actress in a TV movie or mini-series for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in 'Elizabeth I' as well as Best Actress in a drama for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears' drama 'The Queen'.
Dame Helen's 'Elizabeth I' co-star Jeremy Irons also won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV movie or mini-series and the show also won the award for Best Mini-series.
It was a successful night for several other British actors. Sacha Baron Cohen was named Best Actor in a comedy film for his controversial movie 'Borat', a spoof about a Kazakh reporter's misadventures in the USA.
Hugh Laurie scooped the award for Best Actor in a television drama for his role as grumpy doctor Gregory House in medical drama 'House'.
Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt also scooped awards - for Best Actor in a TV movie or min-series and Best Supporting Actress in the same category - for their roles in the BBC drama 'Gideon's Daughter'.
'Babel' was named Best Drama film, but the movie, which starred Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, failed to pick up any other Golden Globes.
'Cars' was named Best Animated Film, while Clint Eastwood's 'Letters From Iwo Jima' won the award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Forest Whitaker picked up the Best Actor in a drama film for his portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, while Martin Scorcese was named Best Director for his movie 'The Departed'.
'Dreamgirls' won the Best Musical or Comedy film award, while two of its stars - Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy won the awards for Best Supporting Actress and Actor in a Musical or Comedy, respectively.
Meryl Streep collected the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role as a tough magazine editor in 'The Devil Wears Prada'.
In the television awards, 'Grey's Anatomy' was named Best Drama Series, while 'Ugly Betty' won the award for Best Musical or Comedy Series. The show's star, America Ferrara won the award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Television Series, while Kyra Sedgewick won the award for Best Actress in a Television Drama for her role in 'The Closer'.
Alec Baldwin was named Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series for his role in '30 Rock'.

Hairspray Scoops Four Olivier Awards
West End musical 'Hairspray' has won four awards at this year's Laurence Olivier Awards. The stage musical was named best new musical, while newcomer Leanne Jones won the award for best actress in a musical for her role as Tracy Turnblad.

BAFTA Success For Harry Hill
Comedian Harry Hill scooped two awards at last night's Bafta Television Awards. Hill won the awards for Best Entertainment Performance and Best Entertainment Programme for his ITV show 'Harry Hill's TV Burp'. BBC Three comedy 'Gavin & Stacey' also won two awards.

Colin Firth - King Of The Golden Globes
British actor Colin Firth was the 'King' of the Golden Globes last night after he won the Best Actor in a Drama award for his role in The King's Speech. The 50-year-old actor won the award for his role as King George VI in the film, but although The King's Speech was nominated in seven categories, it failed to win any other awards.

Cold shoulder for ‘Cold Mountain’ in Oscar nominations
One of the front-runners in this year’s Academy Award race has been dramatically snubbed in the nominations list. ‘Cold Mountain’, the lavish American Civil War epic, directed by Anthony Minghella, only picked up two major nominations – ‘Best Actor’ for Jude Law and ‘Best Supporting Actress’ nomination for Renee Zellweger.
