British serviceman killed in Afghanistan
A British serviceman has been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
The MoD said that the soldier died in the Helmand Province in Afghanistan on Monday morning.
It is believed that the soldier was taking part in an attack on an insurgent base in the southern province.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said that next of kin were being informed and that no further details would be released until this had been completed.
The soldier's death follows the death of Royal Marine Thomas Curry in Afghanistan on Saturday.
The 21-year-old, from east London, was killed during a battle with Taliban fighters.

It is understood that the soldier of the 14 Signals Regiment had been on patrol in Helmand Province when he was killed by enemy fire. His death brings the number of UK service personnel to have died in Afghanistan since 2001 to 445.

The latest casualty that marked this bloody milestone came when a soldier from the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment was shot dead in a gun battle with Taliban insurgents near the town of Nad-e Ali, in central Helmand Province.

Two more British soldiers have been killed in separate incidents in southern Afghanistan. In the first incident, a soldier from 4th Battalion The Rifles, was killed in a contact explosion, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced this morning. The soldier was out on a foot patrol near Nad Ali.
