Girl 'critical' after air rifle shooting

A 16-year-old girl is in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital after being shot in the face with an air rifle on New Year's Day.

The teenager, who has not been named, suffered serious injuries in the incident, which happened at an address in Paulton, Somerset shortly before 6am on Monday morning.

She is currently in hospital in Bristol, where her condition is understood to be critical, but stable.

Nineteen-year-old Dean Durbin - reported to be the teenager's boyfriend - was arrested and charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an air weapon whilst being a prohibited person.

He was remanded in custody at Bath Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and is due to reappear in court on January 8.
