Father charged with family murders

A man has been charged with the murders of his two children, his former partner and her brother in Newcastle, police have confirmed.

Neil Crampton, 33, was arrested in Gateshead several hours after the bodies of Olufunke Sobo, 36, her brother Yemi, 41, and the two children, Abigail and Steven Crampton - aged 12 and five, respectively - were discovered at their home in Hawthorn Gardens on Tuesday.

It is not known how the family died, but Northumbria Police said that they had been subjected to a "sustained violent attack".

Mr Crampton is due to appear in court on Saturday.
