Baby killer receives life sentence
A father-of-two has been given a life sentence for the murder of his nine-month-old niece.
Trevor Stoker, 38, was baby-sitting Mollie Norman at his home in Salford, Greater Manchester, on June 11, 2005 when he killed her.
The court was told that Stoker, a truck driver and former bouncer, repeatedly punched Mollie and banged her head against a bed, causing fatal injuries.
Stoker had denied murder, claiming that he had not deliberately intended to injure the baby.
At sentencing at Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday, Judge Mr Justice Irwin, described the crime as "despicable and callous". He told Stoker that he would have to serve a minimum of 17 years in prison, and said: "You are weak and wicked and took out your wickedness on Mollie."
