Gazza arrested over assault allegations

Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has been arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm, according to reports.

The 39-year-old former Newcastle and Tottenham midfielder was arrested in South Kensington, west London in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

It is understood that the arrest relates to allegations made by a 43-year-old man who claimed that he had been assaulted at a nightclub in the area. According to reports, it is not thought that the man needed hospital treatment.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at approximately 3:40am by a 43-year-old man who alleged that he had been assaulted by another man at a club in South Kensington.

"Following inquiries, a 39-year-old man was arrested at a separate club nearby at 4:15am on suspicion of actual bodily harm and is currently in custody at a south-west London police station."

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.

French Police Arrest Convicted On-The-Run Rapist
A 56-year-old convicted rapist who went on the run before his trial has been captured in France. Police in Calais arrested George Doulat, from Filey, North Yorkshire, on Monday. In his absence, Doulat was convicted at Bradford Crown Court for the rape, attempted rape and sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman in 2012. He was sentenced to 10 years.

Teenager Arrested Over Rape Of 12-Year-Old Girl
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the rape of 12-year-old girl in east London. Three males lead the girl to a "secluded" end of a street in Walthamstow at around 00:15 on Saturday before two of them attacked her, held her down and raped her.

Man Arrested Over Sexual Assault In Somerset
Police investigating a sexual assault in Somerset, during which a mother and child were tied up and held at knifepoint, have arrested a 59-year-old man. Police arrested the man on suspicion of aggravated burglary and sexual assault, in connection with the incident in Sydenham, Bridgewater on 21 January.

Police Dig Up Pub Patio In Search For Missing Landlady
Police investigating the disappearance of a landlady in Cambridgeshire in 1997 are digging up the patio of her former pub. Deborah Steel, 37, was landlady of the Royal Standard in Ely, Cambridgeshire, when she disappeared on 28 December 1997. Police have said that Ms Steel's disappearance is now being treated as a murder investigation.
