'Seven out of 10' children bullied at school
Seven out of ten children have been bullied at school, according to a new survey.
The survey, carried out by charity Bullying Online, questioned over 8,500 children, parents, teachers and adults.
The report found that 69% of pupils who responded to the survey had been bullied in the last 12 months, with half of those saying that a bully had physically hurt them.
Of the parents surveyed, 87% said that their child had been bullied, while 77% said that their child had been bullied more than five times.
More than three-quarters of teachers surveyed said that more training was needed in order to deal with the problem.
Bullying Online said that urgent research was needed to find out why so many children are being bullied repeatedly.
Charity director Liz Carnell said: "We reply to thousands of emails a year so we knew the problem was a big one, but even so we were shocked by what we found out.
"If assaults were happening in the workplace, the attackers would be prosecuted, but in many cases the bullies are getting off scot-free without any punishment at all.
"There have never been so many trendy methods of dealing with school bullying but the results of our survey are shocking and it's time to find out which methods work and ditch the rest."
