Police continue to question man over 1975 murder

Police are continuing to hold a man in connection with the murder of 11-year-old schoolgirl Lesley Molseed more than 30 years ago.

The 53-year-old man from Oldham was arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder.

Lesley disappeared from her home in Rochdale on October 5, 1975, after leaving to go to local shops on an errand for her mother.

Her body was discovered three days later on open moorland just off the A672 in Ripponden, West Yorkshire. She had been stabbed 12 times and had also been sexually assaulted.

Stefan Kiszko was convicted of Lesley's murder and spent 16 years in prison before being freed on appeal when new evidence revealed that he could not have carried out the murder. He died the following year.

The investigation into Lesley's murder was reopened and an appeal was made on BBC's 'Crimewatch' programme in 2003 following a breakthrough in DNA technology, which provided police with a genetic profile of the killer.

More than 250 calls were received as a result of the appeal.
