No verdict reached in Kiyan murder trial

A jury has failed to reach a verdict in the trial of a teenager accused of the murder of 15-year-old Kiyan Prince.

The jury at the Old Bailey was discharged after they failed to reach a verdict following four days of deliberation.

Kiyan, who played for Queen's Park Rangers youth team, was stabbed through the heart close to the gates of his school, London Academy in Edgeware, north London, on May 18.

The 16-year-old defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but denied murder.

He told police that Kiyan's death was an accident and said that he only intended to scratch the other teenager. He also told police that he considered the knife to be "like a toy".

The date for the retrial is now due to be set on November 3.
