RAF Tornado crashes in Lincolnshire

An RAF Tornado jet has crashed near a practice bombing range in Lincolnshire.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed the incident took place shortly after 1100 BST at Holbeach Range.

Two parachutes were seen descending from the two-seater craft from RAF Marham in Norfolk, near the crash site and an air sea rescue helicopter was called upon to help in the rescue.

The two crew members were flown to a hospital at King’s Lynn, Norfolk, the RAF rescue co-ordination centre at Kinloss said.

They are believed to be suffering from spinal injuries, but their condition is not life-threatening.

The GR4 Tornado was thought to be using the range when the accident happened.

Tornados, as well as Harriers and Jaguar aircrafts use Holbeach range as a bombing range.

Practice bombs weighing as much as 2,000lbs are dropped on a variety of targets on the range based on the south side of The Wash.
