Radiation overdose cancer patient dies

A 16-year-old cancer patient who was given a massive overdose of radiation has died.

Lisa Norris, from Girven in Ayrshire, was given 17 overdoses during treatment for a brain tumour in January this year.

The teenager, who was given the treatment at the Beatson Oncology Centre in Glasgow, was left with burns on her head and neck.

Human error was blamed for the radiation overdose.

Professor John Arbuthnott, the chairman of the NHS in Glasgow, said: "We are all extremely upset at the sad news of Lisa's death.

"I have passed on my condolences on behalf of the whole organisation."
