Search on for foster home for baby Charlotte

A severely disabled child who has been at the centre of a legal battle over her right to live, could be fostered, following the separation of her parents.

Charlotte Wyatt was born three months prematurely, weighing just 1lb, and suffers serious brain, lung and kidney damage.

Her parents Darren, 34, and Debbie Wyatt, 25, from Portsmouth fought a lengthy legal battle for Charlotte's right to live, which centred around whether she should be given artificial ventilation if her condition worsened.

The legal dispute is thought to have put a strain on the marriage, which ended in January.

Mr Wyatt is reported as saying: "Charlotte has been well enough to leave hospital for a while now. I would take her if I had all the right support.

"Social Services are now looking for a foster home but finding someone will be very hard and until they find someone she will have to remain in hospital."

Charlotte who is being cared for at St Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth, has recovered from a life-threatening viral lung infection she caught in February.

Her treatment is estimated to cost around £300 a day and reports speculate that it has cost about £1.1 million so far. Charlotte is attached to an oxygen tank and requires three litres of oxygen every minute.
