Man in court over Downing Street security breach

A man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged security breach at Downing Street.

Byung Jin Lee, 32, was arrested after he climbed over railing at the back of Number 10 on Sunday night.

He was challenged by a police officer has soon as he landed and was arrested.

Mr Lee, a South Korean national of no fixed address, appeared at City of Westminster magistrates on Tuesday, charged with possession of a knife and assaulting a police officer.

He was remanded in custody until October 17.

Prime Minister Tony Blair was at Number 10 at the time of the incident, although Scotland Yard said that it was satisfied that he had not been at risk.

However, a review has now been launched into the security arrangements at Downing Street.
