Cameron facing pressure on tax cuts
Conservative leader David Cameron is facing pressure to introduce a policy of tax cuts from delegates at the party's conference in Bournemouth.
John Redwood, who heads Mr Cameron's economic competitiveness policy group, is preparing to publish a pamphlet entitled 'The Case for Lower Taxation' on behalf of the Thatcherite Selsdon Group.
However, he insisted that he was not at odds with Mr Cameron over tax policy, saying: "We entirely agree with him. Firstly that you shouldn't take risks with economic stability, and secondly, that the way to deliver lower taxes is by sharing the proceeds of growth."
Shadow Chancellor George Osbourne said that the Conservatives could not promise tax cuts at the next general election, saying that to do so would be irresponsible. He said that it was more important to concentrate on keeping interest rates and inflation low.

PM Hints At Tax Cuts
Number 10 has failed to quell speculation that a cut in taxation is being considered. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said he was looking "at everything" that could be done to help people through the downturn. He told GMTV that tax changes were a matter for the pre-Budget report - which he said would be "in the next few days".

Conservative leader David Cameron clashed with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, branding him a "phoney" during Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons on Wednesday. Mr Cameron accused Mr Brown of "bottling out of an election", of copying Conservative tax plans and for refusing to hold a referendum on the EU Treaty.

More Fall Into Debt Following HMRC Overpayments
The number of issues reported to Citizens Advice of people falling into debt as a result of repaying overpaid tax credits increased by 14 per cent in the 2013/14 tax year. Tax Credit debts arise when HMRC over-estimates a person’s entitlement to financial support and ends up having to recoup overpayments.
